Soweto, South Africa

Xenephobia tore through Johannesburg, a wildfire of hate, fear and brutality leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. For two weeks the violence raged, migrants were brutally attacked and chased from their homes having no choice but to abandon their animals and belongings and run for their lives.

Cora and her team from CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) bravely walked through some of the worst affected informal settlements, helping the animals that had been caught up in the unrest. Cora recalls almost walking past the box, she is unsure what made her stop and check, but when she opened the lid, her heart broke to discover a timid young dog, dehydrated and weak.

Initially known as "DoginaBox", the youngster was rechristened "Hope" once well enough to go into foster care. She went on to be adopted into the most loving home with Lizel who wrote an update saying "she is doing well and has found her place in our home and our hearts from the minute she walked through the door!"

The Box.
