Bella's owner saw her simply as a security alarm and intruder deterrent.
She spent her whole life, from playful puppyhood to majestic madam, trapped on a short chain. As the months slowly rolled into years, she remained all alone without any other dogs for company. Bella had suffered from chronic painful ear infections that, untreated, had sadly left her deaf.
Given her impressive size and lack of socialisation, we were naturally concerned about how she'd adjust to being around the other foster dogs in a completely new environment. Initially she was rather grumpy but she was too stiff from years of restricted movement and painful arthritis to cause any trouble. Nonetheless, the other dogs respectfully kept their distance which gave her the time and space to become accustomed to them.
Once her painfully inflamed ears received treatment and medication helped ease the discomfort from her arthritic joints, a wonderful transformation began. Bella truly started to blossom, mellowing into the happy and comfortable dog she was always meant to be. She could finally enjoy her well-deserved life, reigning as the queen of her new domain!
